Finding My Mojo

I decided to try something new on this self care Saturday, and visited MOJO Cycling Studio in Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza— and I’m glad I did. This was my first cycling class so naturally I was a bit nervous, but upon entering the studio my nerves quickly dissipated. Everything from the ambiance, to the friendly face that greeted me, immediately calmed my nerves. The receptionist offered sweet words of encouragement and reminders to trust your body. A reminder that comes in handy far beyond a 45 minute cycling class.

Our instructor, Amy was a blast! She was an inspiring burst of energy who made everyone feel welcome. The class was challenging, but oh-so worth it. After I found my mojo (see what I did there?) and got the hang of things, I felt incredible. Suddenly I found myself in the zone…1,2,3,4, left, right, tap, tap… eyes closed pedaling as fast as I could, I made time to check in with myself. To check in with my mind and my body, right there in the middle of a room full of strangers, music blaring, sweat dripping, I checked in- and that may be the most valuable thing I gained from today’s experience. Don’t get me wrong, the workout was killer, but the ability to check in, whenever, wherever, is a skill worth cultivating, and one I’ve been working on for some time now.

After today’s class, I’ll definitely be back. It’s a great workout, and an even better reminder that you are fierce and can do anything you put your mind to. Check out a few photos of the studio below. One of my favorites is the photo filled with inspirational sticky notes. It was like a cycling retreat and it was everything I needed. Find a studio near you, get active, and check in with yourself.

Until next time…Be fearless in your pursuit of mindfulness.
